Fortune has smiled on the city of Cartagena, perched on the northern coast of the South American country of Colombia. Originally a small fishing settlement, it was colonised by the Spanish conquistadores in the 1500s, and today it's a flourishing city blessed with great beaches and good weather, catering for an ever-growing number of local and international tourists.
So what better spot could there be for Sun International's newest casino than this coastal city? The new Sun Nao Casino is ideally located inside the Nao shopping centre, a multi-purpose space that's home to shops, food outlets, cinemas and a five-star InterContinental Hotel, situated in the upmarket area of Boca Grande… so it has a lively location and interesting neighbours! (And, for the literary-minded, the home of famous author Gabriel García Márquez is nearby, overlooking the Caribbean and the city that inspired many of his novels.)
There's lots of fun to be had inside the casino: on offer are 220 slot machines, 16 tables (with five tables and 22 slots in the Privé Lounge) and an entertainment lounge.
WHILE YOU'RE THERE
Cartagena is a wonderfully picturesque combination of the old and the modern. Here are three must-visit sites:
Top of the list is the inner walled 'old' city whose historical districts of El Centro and San Diego are crammed with regal Spanish-colonial architecture – churches, monasteries, squares and palaces. Las Murallas, the thick walls, were built to protect it against enemies.
The Castillo de San Felipe is a huge fortress that was built on a hill outside the city in 1657 by the Spanish for protection against pirates. It was so strong that it was never captured.
The walled city and fortress have been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plaza de San Diego, filled with colourful eateries and bars, is a cool place to mingle or pause after taking in the sights. The Juan del Mar restaurant is one of many that serve excellent food. Dust off your passport and pack your bags – we'll see you in Cartagena!
Mutated cells that multiply uncontrollably can take over organs, including the most complex organ in the body, the brain. Nearly half of all Americans will get some form of cancer in their lifetime, and approximately half of those victims will die from it.
